Peter Weller joins Star Trek 2
Robocop, meet Kirk. Kirk, Robocop...
In a piece of casting news likely to induce nerdgasms the world over, Variety reports that Robocop star Peter Weller has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek sequel.
Weller is the latest star to join the cast, following in the footsteps of Alice Eve, who was added to the existing ensemble last week. The news comes in the wake of a new casting twist, in which Abrams has put a question mark over the involvement of Benicio Del Toro.
Latino Review recently published a story confirming that Del Toro had officially signed on to play the villainous Khan, only for Abrams to come out and contradict the news as “not true”.
That might not necessarily mean that Del Toro isn’t involved however, as Abrams could merely have been writing off Khan as a possible villain. In any case, Del Toro has yet to be officially confirmed, as has the identity of the film’s key antagonist.
As for Weller’s character, we don’t have any details as present, which means that we’re not writing off the possibility of him actually playing Robocop. We can dream, can't we?
