PlanetSide 2 backstory written by comic book legend Marv Wolfman

Anyone who spent their time reading comics over the last 30 years knows the name Marv Wolfman, but even you think you don’t know him, you know his work. He help build the Teen Titans team that the cartoon from a few years back was based on, he had a hand in creating the day-walking vampire killer Blade, and introduced us to Tim Drake aka the third Robin who’s appearing in Batman: Arkham City soon. Wolfman’s also worked in mediums other than comics, and that includes videogames, with that work continuing as he helps flesh out PlanetSide 2’s backstory.

Announced a few months ago, PlanetSide 2 is the long awaited follow-up to Sony Online’s MMO FPS. Though Marv hasn’t been tapped to write the sequel‘s plot directly, he will writing a series of episodic pieces that give the game some background, both on the battles, the soldiers involved, and the planet the conflict is set on. The stories will appear on PlanetSide 2.com, where Wolfman will even go back into the not so fleshed out plot of the first game to help bridge the two.

It makes sense that Sony Online Enteretainment would work with Wolfman given their history together. He wrote for the DC Universe MMO they launched earlier this year. Read our interview with Marv (and artist Jim Lee) if you don‘t believe us.
