With the PS5's rather piddling 1TB internal storage, we're all used to having to make hard decisions every time we want to install a new blockbuster videogame. Not to mention the games we never want to delete: there's no way I'm deleting Baldur's Gate 3 under any circumstances, despite taking up a whopping 108.8GB on PS5. If you're a Destiny 2 player, the upwards of 100GB required for Bungie's shooter is non-negotiable.

In other words, once you've got a handful of games you never want to delete, you can start to feel a bit hemmed in, which is why SSDs for PS5 are always in high demand during big sales events. Amazon Big Deal Days hasn't thrown up many big discounts on these items, but the one it has—for the 2TB model of the best PS5 SSD, the Samsung 990 Pro—is well worth jumping on, especially with Dragon Age: Veilguard on the horizon.

The 2TB Samsung 990 Pro is currently down to AU$218.22, from its usual Amazon price of AU$297.64. It's pretty rare for this piece of kit to go lower than AU$289, and 2TB is a huge amount of space. You could install Baldur's Gate 3 on it 15 times (if it was possible to install games more than once on PS5, which it's not).

If you're always running out of space on PS5 this is a bargain price for 2TB of space: you're not going to have to make hard decisions about what to delete any time soon. It's a premium PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD, with onboard heatsink. It has a lightning quick 7450MB/s read and 6900MB/s write speed. In other words, it has everything you want, and it's our fave SSD for PS5.

This model has the heatsink, which is pretty crucial when you're looking at SSD drives for the PS5. If you buy one without a heatsink you'll have to install a heatsink yourself. That's not super hard, but it is super annoying.

Most importantly, you aren't getting faster speeds than this drive offers, according to our experts: our own tests found 7,462MB/s read and 6,877MB/s write speeds, which is marginally higher than the already high numbers Samsung promises. If you want to dive deeper into the specifics, here's our review.

Amazon Big Deal Days is running for eight days in Australia. We're currently on the third, and we've been collecting the best deals over here. Some of those will last, but discounts on PS5 compatible SSDs tend to not last very long, so if you're in the market you should probably snap it up.
