Point Break remake gets a director
Ericson Core taking the hot seat
Having gone quiet for several years since its first announcement, Alcon Entertainment’s Point Break remake looks to be up and running again with the announcement of a new director.
The man stepping behind the camera is a chap named Ericson Core, who might sound like Sony’s latest gadget, but is actually an advert director who made the step up to feature films with the Mark Wahlberg-starring Invincible .
Last time we heard anything about this one, producer Andrew Kosove was describing how the new version would be a significant departure from the original, rather than a straight remake.
“It's not a literal remake of the original the way Footloose was,” explains Kosove. “It was identical to the original film. [ Our film ] has got elements of the original and it's not just surfing, it's other kinds of extreme sports, but surfing is very, very prominent in the story.”
Alcon is hoping to kick off production by the end of the year, with a script already in place from Kurt Wimmer, he of Law Abiding Citizen and Total Recall . Consider us firmly on the fence…
