Pokemusings, week 24

Nov 29, 2007

Our coverage of Pokemon movies continues! In the last issue of Pokemusings, we went over the dregs -- Pokemon movies that suck. It was a bleak and depressing issue, but we're moving on to bigger, brighter, and better things this week. This time around we'll be talking about three Pokemon movies that are excellent. In no particular order, here are the ones we thought were best.

Pokemon: The Movie 2000

Plot: Some jerkwad collector gets extremely overzealous and attempts to capture the three legendary bird Pokemon. This, of course, disturbs the balance of nature -- the weather goes wacky and Pokemon all over the world rush to the Orange Island area to find out what's up. Before the weather is permanently screwed and the Earth is doomed, Ash must team up with Lugia to save the day.

Star Pokemon: Lugia

Enemy Pokemon: Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos

Why it Rules: It has four legendary Pokemon! Slowking provides comic relief! And we finally get clarification on whether or not Ash and Misty are boyfriend/girlfriend! If that's not enough for you, there are some truly tender and adorable moments in this movie. Three really stand out for us: 1) Ash's Pokemon come out of their Pokeballs on their own, just to show him they believe in him. 2) Team Rocket pledges to be heroes that day and help Ash out, because they know the stakes are so high and he needs all the help he can get. 3) Ash's mom rushes to Orange Island - with Professor Oak, who is probably having a torrid affair with her - because she's worrying so much about her boy. She gets there after he saves the world and scolds him, since she almost lost her world.
