VICTORY ROAD POKEMON

Steelix – Levels 45-46 – Rare
Onix – Levels 44-45 – Uncommon
Machoke – Levels 44-46 – Common
Golbat – Levels 44-46 – Common
Graveler – Levels 44-45 – Common
Medicham – Levels 45-47 – Uncommon
Kadabra – Levels 45-47 – Uncommon
Floatzel – Levels 44-45 - Common

If you thought just getting to Victory Road was a pain, you’re in for a very nasty surprise. We’re not going to mince words – Victory Road is hell. The encounter rate is high, the enemies are strong, and the trainers just don’t stop coming at you. Since the enemies are of a very high level, they can be tough to run from and immune to your Repel items, so you’ll most definitely need a huge stockpile of curative items.

You’ll need five HM skills to complete Victory Road from beginning to end – Rock Smash, Strength, Surf, Waterfall, and Rock Climb. Here’s how we fought our way through this challenging area.

It may take a few attempts, but you will eventually emerge from the caverns at the top of the hill, in front of the final Pokemon Center before the Elite Four. This Pokemon Center’s a bit different from the others – there’s a Pokemart inside of it, along with an ominous door being guarded by a lady. Speak to her to learn that the Elite Four wait for you beyond that doorway. If you think you’re ready to fight them, tell her you want to go inside…

…no, wait, we need one last fight against our rival. Just once more, for old times’ sake.

Remember that Munchlax he had when fighting Team Galactic? He’ll bring that out against you, only now it’s a full-grown Snorlax. The thing is a tank, able to take several strong hits of its weakness (Fighting) without fainting. Making it worse is Snorlax’s full healing ability. All it needs to do is sleep for a few turns to recover full health. Your best bet is to try and up your attack power (via Swords Dance or similar skills) and hit him as hard as you can while he’s snoozing. His other pokemon have all reached their final-stage evolutions, making them very formidable opponents. Your key to success is carefully watching what types he’ll bring out, then quickly bringing out members of your own team that can hit at their weaknesses.

We’re not going to spoil your penultimate fight against the Elite Four, but we can tell you what to expect. You will fight all of the Elite Four in a row, with no way to return to the Pokemon Center except for total defeat. If you do fall against any of them, you’ll have to restart at the first of the Four when you go to challenge them again. We suggest picking 6 of your favorite pokemon, making sure you have a good variety of skills spread among them. The pokemon of the Elite Four range in levels from 53-63, which is a pretty wide spread. If you think you need to spend some extra time training before you take the challenge, do it! Don’t be afraid to use the Legendaries if you’ve caught them, either – after all, you’ve earned the right to use their power, so you may as well put it to use!

Here are the Pokemon you can expect to see the Elite Four using:

Dustox, Vespiquen, Heracross, Drapion, Beautifly
Hippowdon, Whiscash, Quagsire, Sudowoodo, Golem
Infernape, Steelix, Lopunny, Drifblum, Rapidash
Mr. Mime, Griafarig, Alakazam, Bronzong, Medicham

After that is the final boss. You’ve come this far, and you’ve fought against the best of the best. Use everything you’ve learned against the six pokemon this trainer brings to the arena: Spiritomb, Milotic, Lucario, Roserade, Gastrodon, and Gachomp.

And that’s it! You’re now the Sinnoh Pokemon Champion. Walk proud, for you have accomplished many amazing feats on your journey. But the best part is that there’s still plenty more adventures to come. Stay tuned to GamesRadar for our upcoming guide covering everything you can do after finishing the game!
