Walt Disney Pictures has announced that Ponyo, the latest film by legendary anime director Hayao Miyazaki, will hit the big screen in the US on 14 August. The film centres on the friendship between a young boy, Sosuke, and a magic goldfish named Ponyo, who aspires to become human. Casting details have also been released - Sosuke and Ponyo will be played by child actors Frankie Jonas and Noah Cyrus respectively, and other names on the cast list include Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Liam Neeson and former Golden Girl Betty White.
The film - full title Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea - was released in Japan in July last year, and became Japan's highest-grossing film of 2008, beating the latest Pokemon movie and the megabudget live action adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's manga 20th Century Boys.
