Power Rangers movie gets 2016 release date
New synopsis revealed online
Like it or not, the Power Rangers movie is happening, and is set to land in cinemas in just over two years time, with the announcement of an official release date.
Lionsgate has now confirmed that the film will open in the US on 22 July 2016, and has also released a new synopsis to give us some idea of what we can expect.
The official blurb describes the film as, “a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.”
Great use of the word “infused” there. X-Men: First Class scribes Ashley Miller and Jack Stentz are currently hard at work on the script, with Roberto Orci on executive producer duties.
At present, the Power Rangers are set to go up against Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur and the next episode in the Bourne saga. We’d expect them to get beaten initially, only to come back bigger and stronger, and win the day. That’s usually how it works…
