Powerful new trailer for Amy Winehouse documentary: Cannes 2015
Amy, Asif Kapadia’s documentary on the tragic life of Amy Winehouse, opened to astonishing reviews at the Cannes Film Festival, and a brand new trailer for the film has now been released.
Like Kapadia’s award-winning Senna, Amy eschews the traditional talking-heads documentary style for a more immersive film experience. We saw the film in Cannes, and you can read our full reaction to it here.
Compiled from huge amounts of previously unseen footage, the film features previously unheard tracks from the star, who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011. During her career, Winehouse picked up five Grammy awards, among a host of accolades. Famed for her distinctive, soulful voice, Winehouse’s well-documented troubles with alcohol and drugs led to her becoming a tabloid target. As the Amy poster’s tagline indicates, this is about the search for the young woman behind the headlines.
