Preacher gets a writer
John August will pen the graphic novel pic
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory John August has signed on to write the adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic book series Preacher for Sam Mendes.
Mendes was only recently quoted as saying that he was waiting for the right script before tacking Preacher. Now August could be the man to provide it – or at least get the ball rolling with a draft.
He’ll be tackling Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s tale of a down-on-his-luck Preacher cursed with strange powers who heads off across America to hold God responsible for his negligence.
Frankenweenie
Once he’s done with Preacher, August will re-team with Tim Burton, for whom he wrote Charlie, Big Fish and The Corpse Bride, to work on adapting Burton’s Frankenweenie short into a film.
Frankenweenie was a big cinematic memory for those of us who grew up in the ‘80s – the tale of a dog brought back to life after it is hit and killed by a car.
The new version will be made in stop-motion animation like The Corpse Bride, but shot in both black and white and 3D.
