Promises and playtime
New promos for Eastern Promises and Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium
The two trailers arriving online today couldn’t be more different if they tried. In the bloody red corner, we have David Cronenberg’s latest dabble in crime, Eastern Promises.
Re-teaming the director with his History Of Violence star Viggo Mortensen, and adding the thesping power of Naomi Watts, Vincent Cassel and Armin Mueller-Stahl, Eastern Promises sees a young, idealistic midwife (Watts) finding a diary on the body of a teenager who has died during childbirth. But when she probes the book’s secrets, she’s drawn into the dangerous world of the Russian mob, where she meets a charismatic but dangerous thug (Mortensen).
Also premiering is the first footage from Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, the tale of quirky toyshop owner Dustin Hoffman, who plans to turn over management of his magical store to young apprentice Natalie Portman. So he calls in an accountant to make sure the transition is all above board and the stuffy suit (Jason Bateman) learns just how alive the shop can be…
