Game: Die Hard (1997) - Sega Saturn
Movie: Die Hard (1988)
The Movie: This is a real kid-friendly scenario: A lone cop, John McClane, is trapped in a building with would-be terrorists who have his wife and several other people held hostage. Being the badass cop with the heart of gold he is, he kills all the bad guys, saves the hostages and makes it home in time for Christmas. The whole movie is packed with firefights and bullet wounds, but we remember one headshot in particular that paints a wall behind it with brains, blood and itty-bitty chunks of skull.
The Game: Also featuring a cop and a building, the game drops you off on the roof. From that point on, it's your job to kick the butt of just about everyone in the tower until there isn't anyone else left standing. You play from room to room, and pick up all kinds of objects to smash in the faces of terrorism. Guns can be salvaged from enemies after applying your fists to them. Several rooms later, we couldn't help but wonder why McClane would drop himself off on the roof of a building and not bring his own weapon. After a couple of rooms, you'll recover a magically indoor-safe rocket launcher that only hurts your enemies (unless you get blown up first); if that had been the case in the film, the movie would have been about an hour and a half shorter.
