The world of children’s dance contests takes a soft-shoeing in this fitfully funny Aussie mock-doc, tracking the rivalry between two academies gearing up for a grand final. Prim and pink-clad, Miss Elizabeth (Jane Hall) pits her iron methods against the unorthodox Mr Jonathon (Ben Miller), who plans to solve global injustice with routines like the Kyoto Protocol Shuffle. Set to a soundtrack of cheese classics (‘What A Feeling’ etc), the dancing’s neither good enough to impress nor crap enough to amuse. The deadpan, hand-held style apes The Office, but lacks such a subtle eye for human quirks (notwithstanding Kerry Armstrong’s spot-on turn as a pushy stage mum).
