Rebecca Hall is spooked in The Awakening trailer
Dominic West also feels the chill
A trailer for spookfest The Awakening has crept online.
The '20s-set chiller stars Rebecca Hall as an author and part-time proto-ghostbuster, who sets about uncovering paranormal hoaxes in her spare time.
She's called in to investigate spooky goings-on at a boys' boarding school by history master Dominic West, and things take a turn for the sinister.
Before you can say " Three Men And A Baby " a creepy ghost-kid is showing up in some developing photos and scaring the bejesus out of everyone.
The Awakening seems heavily reminiscent of Henry James classic novella The Turn Of The Screw (which is no bad thing when it comes to ghost stories) in the way it's eager to suggest that the mysterious activity could be playing out in the mind of Hall's lonely character.
With a rock-solid cast (Hall, West, the ever-reliable Imelda Staunton as a salt-of-the-earth schoolma'am), gloomy cinematography and nice period detail, it has all the hallmarks of a classy couple of hours of scares, so check out the trailer now:
The Awakening is set to open on 11 November 2011.
