Richard D. Zanuck, one of Hollywood's most famous film producers, has died aged 77, according to a report by the Guardian .
He passed away in his Beverly Hills home. Zanuck came from celebrated Hollywood stock (his father was 20th Century Fox boss Darryl F. Zanuck), but produced so many iconic films throughout his career that he easily established a name for himself in his own right.
Among Zanuck's biggest hits were The Sound Of Music , The Sting , and Steven Spielberg's industry-redefining Jaws .
He went on to back The Verdict and Cocoon , before scoring an Oscar for Driving Miss Daisy .
The latter part of his career was to be defined by collaborations with Tim Burton, beginning with the unpopular Planet Of The Apes reimagining, but went on to include Big Fish , Charlie And The Chocolate Factory , Sweeney Todd , Alice In Wonderland , and finally, Dark Shadows .
Zanuck was survived by his wife, two sons, and nine grandchildren. Our thoughts go out to them.
