Richard Donner says a Goonies sequel is happening
Hopes original cast will return
Nearly 30 years after it was released in cinemas, it looks as though The Goonies might finally be getting a sequel, at least according to director Richard Donner.
Donner was asked by TMZ whether he would ever consider doing another comic-book movie, to which he replied, “If you call Goonies a comic book… we’re doing a sequel.”
Quite the bombshell to drop, there, Richard! The director didn’t elaborate much further, but did say that he was hopeful that all the original cast members would agree to a return.
The last time Donner commented on a potential sequel, was a couple of years ago, when he suggested that the likeliest way The Goonies would be getting a revival would be in the form of a stage musical.
Clearly something has changed since then, however . After all, Goonies never say die, now do they?
