Ridge and famous

Namco has announced Ridge Racer 7 for PlayStation 3, and the company confirmed today that it'll be touching down this November as a PS3launch title.

It's certainly a surprise, given that we were expecting a buffed-up conversion of the Xbox 360's Ridge Racer 6 to appear. But a whole new game?

It's not clear whether that's a global launch for RR7 to go with thePS3's worldwide release, however, or if it's just for Japan. If we had to bet, our money would go on the latter.

What we do know is that the game is set in 2010 - which is as good an excuse as any to make everything look beautifully shiny and cram stages with enough neon to blind the sun - and there will be around 200 vehicles.

It'll also be exclusive to PS3, and Namco is aiming to allow at least 16 players to race against one another online. Stick with us for E3, where Namco will doubtlessly produce some handsome screenshots for you all to coo over.
