Ridley Scott in talks to direct Matt Damon in The Martian
Set to replace Drew Goddard
Ridley Scott is in talks to direct Fox's upcoming sci-fi film, The Martian , replacing the studio's original choice of helmer, Drew Goddard.
Goddard had been forced to exit the project in order to direct Sony's Sinister Six , but according to Heat Vision , Scott is expected to sign on to pick up the reins.
The film will be an adaptation of an e-book by author Andy Weir, and will star Matt Damon as an astronaut marooned on Mars, after a dust storm forces the rest of his crew to evacuate.
So begins a remarkable story of survival in the harshest imaginable conditions, surrounded by the cold, gaping vacuum of space. You may remember one of those doing rather well last year…
Goddard had previously penned the film's screenplay, and it is thought that his draught will remain in place, at least as a building block for a new screenwriter. No release date has been confirmed as yet.
