Majel Barrett Roddenberry (23 February 1932 – 18 December 2008) died yesterday, after having completed recording her part for the forthcoming Star Trek movie.
Barrett first appeared in Star Trek's pilot "The Cage" as the unnamed first officer, Number One. She then returned in the classic Kirk-era series as Nurse Chapel, and then as Lwaxana Troi in The Next Generation. She also famously provided the voice of the Star Fleet on-board computers , including the Enterprise in the forthcoming movie , which was only announced a week or so ago. She had already completed the voice recording work before she died.
She married Trek creator Gene Roddenberry (died 1991) in 1969. She is reported as having passed away in her sleep at her home in Bel Air early Thursday morning.
