Roland Emmerich Offered Asteroids

The director who’s destroyed the Earth multiple times could be bringing the classic Atari video game to screen
Along with Battleships , Ouija and Risk there seems to be a new trend for games-based movies where the source material doesn’t exactly suggest much of a storyline (there’s even been rumours about Ridley Scott directing or producing a Monopoly movie, though they seem to have died down). While there’s not guarantee Emmerich will end up the directing Asteroids – which is being produced by Transformers ’ Lorenzo di Bonaventura from a script by Matt Lopez ( Race to Witch Mountain ) – the article does at least give some clue as to how the game will be adapted:
“We’re told it’s an ersatz sequel to world-ending Emmerich films like Independence Day and 2012 , but one in which the aliens have won. The remnants of human civilisation are now living on far-flung colonies within an asteroid belt alongside aliens. The survivors were led to believe that this alien civilisation was benevolent, rescuing them from doom, but ultimately discover that the aliens have engineered Earth’s destruction, and soon will do the same for the rest of humankind.”
