Ron Howard has cleared up some of the confusion surrounding the delay in getting his adaptation of The Dark Tower into production.
The ambitious adaptation of Stephen King’s soon-to-be eight tome book series is set to become a movie trilogy and a tie-in TV series, making it one of the biggest projects ever attempted in Hollywood.
Understandably, that means there’s a lot of money at play, which is the main cause of the project’s delay.
“We had to pull back to our September start date due to budget delays and ongoing story development and logistical issues,” director Howard tells EW , “but Dark Tower is moving forward.
“We’re thinking of starting in early spring now… We’ll know by the end of the summer, when our flashing green light goes solid.”
Meanwhile, in a bit of a blow, Howard revealed that Javier Bardem hasn’t actually signed on to play the series’ enigmatic lead wanderer Roland. Yet.
“I can’t really say who’ll be in it yet,” Howard continues, “but Javier Bardem has shown a great deal of interest.”
The first instalment of The Dark Tower was being scheduled for May 2013, but these numerous delays could mean Tower fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the story realised on film.
