Rumor: Jena Malone is Barbara Gordon in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

Jena Malone's arrival on the set of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice sparked immediate online chatter. Was she there to visit her Sucker Punch director? Or was she in the movie? Naturally assumptions were made on the basis of her look at the time, leading most to believe she was playing Carrie Kelley - a female Robin from The Dark Knight Returns comic miniseries.

According to Latino Review that's not the case. Malone is thought to be playing Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner James Gordon. Her alter-egos Batgirl and Oracle have cropped up in the comics and on the big screen over the years, with the character even nabbing a brief role in The Dark Knight. As there's no official confirmation yet we don't know which version Malone is playing.

As part of the Warner Bros-DC cinematic universe, the film has ties to Suicide Squad, in which Jared Leto's Joker is said to be inspired by The Killing Joke take on the sadistic prankster. If that's true and other story threads were mined from that same comic, there could be a very bleak fate in store for Miss Gordon.

Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Jesse Eisenberg, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016.
