Rumor: Microsoft to announce Xbox 360 successor at E3 next month
EA is already experimenting with the new tech, claims source
The source, who does not work for either Microsoft or EA, claims that the new system is housed in a PC case, which happens "quite often" with early dev kits, and speculates that a surprise announcement could be on the way.
"Why let Nintendo steal the thunder in June [At E3]? It doesn’t want to lose momentum," said the source. "That’s why I think Microsoft is rushing to make an announcement at E3."
Another source, however, told Eurogamer that an E3 announcement is "highly unlikely."
We have to agree. While we know that a Nintendo announcement is coming, we'd be surprised if Microsoft sprung a hardware announcement on us this year - it might appear to be a desperate attempt to outdo Nintendo. A few hints this year, and an announcement at next year's E3 seems much more plausible. You never know, though... E3 2011 may be an especially exciting show.
