Rumour: Idris Elba to join Guy Ritchies King Arthur
Set to play Merlin-esque mentor
Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur adaptation could be about to make its first major casting announcement, with Idris Elba being linked to a key role in the new production.
According to Variety , Elba is in discussions with Warner over a part in the film, described in the report as “a Merlin-esque figure who trains and mentors Arthur.”
The report goes on to say that Ritchie has spent the last few months meeting with a whole host of actors, with a glut of official offers to be made over the coming weeks.
As for the film itself, it has been suggested that it could be the first instalment in a six-movie series of Camelot-based films, although that is likely to translate to a standalone film with room left for sequels.
Directed by Ritchie from a script by Joby Harold, King Arthur will open in the UK on 22 July 2016.
