Rumour: Jonathan Levine up for Doctor Strange?
Brave’s Mark Andrews also a contender
While Marvel has yet to confirm the identity of any of its 2017 releases, Kevin Feige has strongly hinted that one of them will be an adaptation of Doctor Strange .
Now it seems that that hint is firming up into cold, hard fact, with THR reporting that Marvel is actively looking for a director for the project, and has come up with a four-man shortlist for the position.
50/50 director Jonathan Levine is one of those four contenders, with Mark Andrews ( Brave ), Nikolaj Arcel ( A Royal Affair ), and Dean Israelite ( Welcome To Yesterday ) also in the hunt.
For non comic-book fans, Doctor Strange is an arrogant neurosurgeon who suffers a hand-mangling car crash, before mastering the art of magic under the tutelage of a character known as “the Ancient One”.
Johnny Depp has repeatedly been linked with the role, although no casting has been announced as yet. Appointing a director (and indeed, actually announcing the film!) would be a step in the right direction...
