Ryan Gosling on robbing banks for The Place Beyond The Pines
Exclusive: “I’d always wanted to rob banks but was too scared of jail”
In issue 205 of Total Film magazine , we chat to The Place Beyond The Pines stars Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.
You can read the full feature inside the issue (available for just £1.99 on your iPad ), but here’s a snippet of what Gosling - who will soon be quitting acting for a while - had to say about getting into character as a stunt biker turned bank robber.
“Before Blue Valentine , I told Derek [ Cianfrance, director ] how I’d always wanted to rob banks but was too scared of jail,” said the actor with a smile. “But if I was going to do it, I would do it on a motorcycle and drive into a U-Haul [ trailer ] at the end.”
Gosling even admitted that he picked up some pointers on TPBTP : “I learned that you just have to ask for the money; they have to give it to you. I’m not promoting it but I would say don’t use a weapon if you’re going to do it because nice bank robbers spend less time in jail.”
