Scorsese signs for Paramount
Studio snaps up Marty to plug the production gap left by Cruise
We're sure Tom Cruise isn't crying into his power shake but still, the news that Martin Scorsese has snagged himself a mega-moolah deal at Paramount has got to sting.
Marty is back on top in box office terms after The Departed bulldozed through the $100 million barrier. So Paramount Pictures honcho Brad Grey happily saw the mono-browed genius put pen to paper on a first-look development deal with the studio.
“I have had a great personal relationship with Brad Grey for several years now and am looking forward to working with him at Paramount,” Scorsese said. “It's a studio rich in cinematic history and responsible for making some of my favorite films.”
The deal will see the Mean Streets lenser responsible for developing projects to direct and produce, for both cinema and television.
Cruise's grin isn't likely to crack over the news after recently inking a contract with MGM to rejuvenate their United Artists production stable.
We're sure the partnership will be a roaring success... Just keep your feet off of the furniture, Marty.
