Sea, snow, and selfies in two newly revealed Super Mario Odyssey locations
Nintendo saved the best for last in today's Nintendo Direct presentation, making us wait for a new glimpse at Super Mario Odyssey. Try not to dwell on whether Mario has his head inserted into new hat friend Cappy's mouth or... something else, and instead marvel at the new locations.
Shiveria can be found in the wintry Snow Kingdom and, judging by the snippet Nintendo chose to show, it's a veritable all-you-can-eat buffet of frozen water. Snow, ice, sleet. We're sure there are adorable penguin and polar bear enemies too, we just didn't get to see them this time around.
We saw a lot more in Bubblaine, the new area in the Seaside Kingdom. Sea, sand, giant glass structures topped with angry octopi, and Mario using Cappy to transform into a fish. Bafflingly, it was also revealed that Bubblaine's sea water is carbonated, which sounds like an ecological nightmare.
We also got more details on how Mario will travel between all these colorful locations. His ship, the Odyssey, is powered by moons. This fuel can be found hidden in worlds, and you might need to solve puzzles or kill particular enemies to find them. A Power Moon list will motivate you to keep hunting, and we're promised a perk if you find them all.
On top of all that, Nintendo whizzed through various costumes Mario can where as he travels - chef, Dr. Mario, caveman - and stickers that can be used to pimp your ride. Our favorite addition? Snapshot mode, which lets you freeze time and add effects to get the perfect picture of your Mario. All we need to decide now is what to call it. A Melfie? Capchat?
Super Mario Odyssey will be released for Nintendo Switch on October 27.
