Sean Penn drama Gangster Squad adds Giovanni Ribisi
Actor joins 1940s crime epic
G iovanni Ribisi has joined the cast of 1940s crime drama Gangster Squad .
The Avatar actor joins an already diamond constellation of actors that includes Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena and (possibly) Bryan Cranston.
Ribisi is a great character actor who’s boosted many a drama in his time, including Saving Private Ryan , Public Enemies and Boiler Room.
In Gangster Squad , he’ll play Conway Keeler, a member of an elite police team and a specialist in electronics and wiring.
Inspired by a series of articles from the LA Times , Gangster Squad follows Penn’s Mickey Cohen and an elite squad of cops chasing him through the city of angels.
It’s been adapted by Will Beall, and will be directed by Zombieland ’s Ruben Fleischer.
Ribisi will next appear in Johnny Depp vehicle The Rum Diar y , and Seth MacFarlane’s live-action debut Ted .
Gangster Squad is targeting a 2013 release.
