Ever looked at the robots from Horizon Zero Dawn and wished you could have your very own machine to command? Well, the wait is over as in this special festive edition of What’s in the Box, you can see MekaMon in action. A gaming robot that’s a tinier, much less deadly version of the Destroyers in Horizon Zero Dawn. Using your phone like Brandon does in the video above, you control MekaMon’s every move as you fight your way through virtual enemies in AR gameplay through the MekaMon App. Thanks to the special AR tracking in the head of the robot, your smart device can recognise MekaMon and create a virtual battlefield in augmented reality. Fight enemies and other robots right from the comfort of your own home. Nifty, right?
Each MekaMon comes with attachable weapons and shields so you can customise it however you want. Find a friend (or enemy might work better, actually) who has their own MekaMon and you can go head-to-head in multiplayer matches, or if you’re on your own you can defend your base solo. Climb the ranks of the global MekaMon leaderboard to become the best MekaPilot! Every single attack has its own stats, so it’s not just a case of firing your weapon recklessly into enemies: go at it too hard and the weapon will overheat, making you about as useful as the ruined enemies you leave in your wake. Playing with MekaMon is definitely going to make you feel like some sort of evil genius - but in a fun way, not a destroy-a-continent-with-a-death-ray kind of way. Come on, you are using a fighting robot after all.
