We’re very familiar with commercials for videogames, as we’re bombarded with them non-stop whenever we watch South Park, so we aren’t surprised to see game characters selling the game they appear in. However, it’s pretty rare to see a game character pitching something other than a game, especially something as random as car insurance. That’s exactly what Sonic the Hedgehog is doing when he crosses over with the omnipresent Progressive sales associate Flo.
Aside from getting to see Flo’s beaming face interact with Sonic, our favorite part is that modern Sonic keeps his mouth shut, instead of nasally whining about chilli dogs. We had to wonder just why Sonic needs insurance, unless it’s for another round of Sega All-Stars Racing. We’re not sure if this will actually sell nostalgic 20-somethings on the brand, but it was at least a cute commercial. And just so we aren’t leaving out Sonic’s chief rival, does anyone remember when Mario tried to sell milk?
