Sega embraces cross-platform play
Universe at War: Earth Assault to feature PC-Xbox 360 play
RTS Universe at War: Earth Assault has become the first third-party game to support cross-platform play between PC and Xbox 360 through Games for Windows - Live.
"Incorporating innovative multiplayer modes inspired by popular massively multiplayer online games and competitive online titles, Universe at War: Earth Assault for the PC and Xbox 360 will give players Achievement Points, rewards, and medals to encourage players to progress in the game," Sega has said.
"Players from around the world will battle in the persistent-style 'Conquer the World' mode across the PC and Xbox 360 for ultimate faction supremacy in a virtual representation of Earth."
Sega assures that Universe at War developer Petroglyph is working hard to ensure a balanced gameplay environment in the cross-platform action. Fair enough, but PC gamers still have to pay for Gold membership on Games for Windows - Live to play against their Xbox 360 cousins.
Universe at War, which is set in a future where multiple enemy factions from across the galaxy have come to Earth to wage war, is due out on PC this Christmas and on Xbox 360 inearly 2008.
