Stoke Newington (in north London) was home to Daniel Defoe, Marc Bolan, Mary Wollstonecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, and has been credited with the birthplace of feminism, journalism and the novel. This week the area launches its fourth annual literary event and genre fans are surprisingly well catered for. Alongside "literary bad boy" Irvine Welsh, Caitlin Moran, John Hegley and Robin Ince, you'll also encounter SF writer and editor George Mann, a collection of rare short films and extracts from the BFI's archive , Guardian critic Alex Clark and loads more. Visit the official website for ticket and programme details . Our chums at Pan Macmillan are one of the official festival sponsors this year.
