From now until the release of the biggest SF epic this year, SFX invites you into the world of John Carter , a letter a day…
The story of John Carter has influenced films we all know and love, from Star Wars to Superman . To introduce you to the world of John Carter , otherwise known as Barsoom, we’ve put together a full A-Z, which will teach you everything you need to know about one of this year’s biggest films, and explain why John Carter is so important in the world of sci-fi.
Our A-Z starts today and will run all the way through to 9 March when John Carter hits cinemas, so make sure you check SFX every day to discover more about the world of John Carter.
A is for Avatar
James Cameron’s epic Avatar follows the plot of John Carter very closely. Like the story of John Carter before it, Avatar tells the story of a man from Earth transported to another planet via an alternative version of himself. While there he helps to save the planet and just happens to fall in love with their native Princess. James Cameron told The New Yorker in 2009 : “With Avatar I thought, do something in the Edgar Rice Burroughs mould, like John Carter of Mars .”
