Gambit rumors circle Shane Black and Joe Cornish for director's chair
The Gambit movie is slowly picking up the pieces after original director Rupert Wyatt exited the project last month. Those "creative differences" haven't prevented Fox from pushing on with sourcing his replacement. Channing Tatum recently threw Doug Liman's name into the hat, and if this new report from Heroic Hollywood is correct then he's not the only one in the running.
According to the site's sources, Attack The Block's Joe Cornish and Iron Man 3's Shane Black director are under consideration. Out of the pair, Black boasts a wider range of experience, having penned tons of big-hitter scripts and, of course, steering Marvel to a win with the third Iron Man picture. His commitments to The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, might make it tough for him to direct Gambit. And let's not forget he's writing and directing the Predator reboot.
As for Cornish, with only one directing credit to his name, it might prove tricky to bag the gig. Although, he recently landed an important screenwriting and story credit on Ant-Man, proving he's got the chops for blockbuster comic book fare.
Tatum is currently attached to star as the ragin' Cajun and to serve as producer on the movie. Gambit is still on Fox's schedule for October 7, 2016.
