Shawn Levy to direct Pinocchio prequel Misfortunes Of Geppetto
Fox acquires the barmy-sounding script
Real Steel is pummelling its way into cinemas this week, and director Shawn Levy is showing no signs of slowing down his intense working regime.
Although he recently signed on to direct a new take on the Frankenstein story (expected to be his next movie), he's also been attached to a spec script for a Pinocchio prequel, which was snapped up by Fox in a "high 6-figure deal," according to Deadline .
The Three Misfortunes Of Geppetto chronicles the woodcarver's life before he creates the famous puppet with human aspirations, as he faces war, strife, and, you guessed it, misfortune, in the mission to hook up with his true love.
The Deadline report reckons the script, by Michael Vukadinovich, is in the whimsical vein of Big Fish and The Princess Bride .
These are fairtytale-heavy times, and Warner Bros is also developing a live-action Pinocchio which could end up competing with this one, Snow White style.
