Sherlock Christmas special gets an official title and air date
Christmas might still be a couple of months away, but the BBC has made an announcement to get you in the festive spirit, revealing the official title and air date for the Sherlock Christmas special. According to the broadcaster, the one-off episode will be entitled The Abominable Bride, and will air in the UK and US on New Year’s Day 2016.
Even better than that, the Christmas special will be available to view in select cinemas across the country on the same day, with tickets going on sale on November 2. The BBC are obviously hoping to recreate the success of the 50th anniversary Doctor Who episode, which was watched by fans in cinemas and at home alike.
Plus, according to the BBC Twitter feed, there won’t be too long to wait before we see another complete series of the popular sleuthing saga. “Series 4 of #Sherlock will start shooting next spring,” reads the tweet in question. “Steven Moffat and @Markgatiss are busy writing away right now.”
The fourth season will see things revert to the present day once more, having visited the character’s traditional 19th Century setting for the special. Presumably Martin Freeman’s moustache will not survive the transition, although we live in hope…
