Way back in April 2008 we reported that in the wake of WALL-E, Dimension Films was prepping a remake of Short Circuit, the cult ’80s comedy about a robot, Johnny 5, who bore a passing resemblance to Disney’s CG droid. Then everything went a bit quiet.
But it seems the project is moving ahead. Variety now reports that Dimension Films has signed up a writer, Dan Milano. Intriguing choice, as he's best known as a voice artist and writer on Seth Green’s anarchic stop motion sketch show Robot Chicken.
Producer David Foster, who also produced the original Short Circuit, says: “We're bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals… We think of Wall-E as an extended trailer for our film, because it's the same face.”
