Simon Kinberg and Neill Blomkamp join The Leviathan
Ruairí Robinson’s proof of concept trailer for sci-fi saga The Leviathan became an internet sensation when it appeared online last week, so much so that Deadline is now reporting that Simon Kinberg and Neill Blomkamp have officially signed on to join the project.
Penned by Fight Club scribe Jim Uhls, the new film will be set in the 22nd century, where mankind has harnessed the power of faster-than-light travel by harvesting the “exotic matter” from the eggs of the titular alien creature.
Robinson’s trailer has amassed nearly 2 million views in the last week alone, with Deadline’s report claiming that both Kinberg and Blomkamp had their heads turned by the online buzz.
Kinberg’s first-look deal with Fox will likely mean instant backing for the project, although as the report notes, there will be no shortage of takers should the studio decide to pass.
In case you missed it last week, here’s another chance to check out the trailer for The Leviathan…
