Simon Kinberg clarifies Rogues involvement in Days Of Future Past
Screenwriter explains why original scenes were cut
X-Men: Days Of Future Past screenwriter and producer, Simon Kinberg, has been discussing Rogue’s involvement in the film, explaining why her scenes were cut from the finished script.
“It’s kind of a hard question,” said Kinberg, when grilled by Crave on the subject. “We shot with Anna [ Paquin ] a big subplot in the movie and we watched it in the movie and then we cut it out of the movie because, she’s great in it and it was well shot, but it just didn’t fit the film.”
“It was a subplot that I created sort of as an appendage to the movie because I wanted to do something else that didn’t serve the main plot of the film.”
“I just wanted to see Ian [ McKellen ] and Patrick [ Stewart ] on a mission together,” he continues. “So I took them away from the main plot of the movie so that they could go off and do something, and she was the MacGuffin of that mission.”
“I can’t speak to any other rumours about any other way she could appear in the film, but I can tell you that the main plot that we shot with her, we pulled out of the movie.”
However, we do know that Rogue will still be appearing in a cameo of some variety, with reports having suggested that the scene she does appear in is too crucial to be cut. Which seems odd, if she was only to be involved in a side-plot...
Curiouser and curiouser. We’ll find out for sure when the film opens in the UK on 22 May 2014.
