The skys the limit in first trailer for Point Break remake
If the prospect of going years without another Fast & Furious movie was causing you to break a sweat, fear not. Warner Bros. has unleashed the first trailer for its Point Break remake online and it’s safe to say that Hollywood’s era of extreme hi-jinks has only just begun.
Loosely based on Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 cult classic, Invincible’s Ericson Core directs this upgraded story that finds young FBI agent Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey) deep undercover with a bunch of extreme sports enthusiasts led by Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The group’s extracurricular activities - criminal stuff - leads Utah further into their antics, and that involves wingsuits. Because who doesn’t want to fly like a bat? Check out the first trailer below:
For all the cheese it piles on with some of those line deliveries, the trailer still possesses some impressive action choreography. Elsewhere, the obvious parallels to Fast and Furious are especially intriguing considering that petrolhead franchise is essentially a remake of Bigelow’s original Point Break. This time, the stakes are raised considerably as this modern bunch of daredevil criminals leap from planes, cliffs and mountains. Dangerous? Yes. Fun? Only time will tell.
Point Break opens in the US on December 25, 2015 and in the UK on January 8, 2016.
