Xbox's all-conquering FPS wasn't always thus: when development began in 1997, Halo was an RTS concept for Macs and PCs. Announced at MacWorld in 1999, Halo had then transformed into a more familiar-looking squad-based shooter (with a PS2 port to come!). But then Microsoft bought Bungie, and the Xbox version stormed the world in 2001 – except for the world of Mac and PC gamers, who would have to wait another 2 years.
