Sony confirms LittleBigPlanet Karting is a real thing

Kart racing looks to be getting another mascot, as Sony has confirmed the return of Sackboy and his sack friends in LittleBigPlanet Karting.

“Update: We can confirm that LittleBigPlanet Karting is in fact in development and we look forward to sharing more on the game soon!” tweeted Sony earlier today.

Sony's confirmation comes days after a promotional image featuring Sackboy pimping the (then) unannounced title appeared online at Future Shop Gamer. The rumors were further fueled by a Future Shop's tweet stating, “Destination Little Big Planet Cart racing announced for PS3. Move compatible wheel and 3D capable!”

While Sony is staying mum on the game's details, the idea of LittleBigPlanet Karting being PS Move compatible and 3D capable aren't big stretches considering the LittleBigPlanet franchise has been used to push both technologies in the past. What is up for debate is if Sony will stick to Media Molecule's cutesy aesthetic and, if it does, how it will sell a whole new Sackboy racer to a community that already has ModNation Racers; a LittleBigPlanet-esque game that already features an appearance by Sackboy.

Suffice to say, we have questions. Last time we checked in with Sony, however, they gave us the “no comment” routine. Regardless, it sounds like we'll hear more about LittleBigPlanet Karting soon enough. In the meantime let us know what you think about Sackboy's latest career change.
