Sony Ericsson's PSP phone?
Patent application reveals Sony Ericsson PSP phone complete with rotating display
By the looks of a recent patent filing, Sony Ericsson could be about to launch a PSP mobile phone.
The patent application, dated May 31 2007, details a device with a rotating display which switches into landscape mode automatically for gaming. The keys underneath the display change automatically from numeric keys into game controls when the screen is moved.
Sony Ericsson is already using Sony's Walkman and Cyber-shot brands for its music and camera-based handsets, so utilizing the PSP brand for a gaming mobile would only be natural.
Of course, this would also put Sony Ericsson in direct competition with Nokia's, ahem, troubled N-Gage platform which is about to be re-launched for Nokia S60 smartphones.
Would Sony find more success in the phone gaming sector than Nokia, though? We're not sure we'd fancy having this clunky thing in our pocket all the time, or indeed smudging our lovely PSP screen whilst on the phone.
