Sony: Making a PS3 port for the NGP will be "simple and quick"

Think of your favorite PS3 game, and then imagine playing it on a portable device with no loss in the game's overall fidelity. According to Sony, that'll be possible with its upcoming successor to the PSP.

In an interview with Edge magazine, Sony's worldwide studio head Shuhei Yoshida talked about the NGP, saying that making development "as easy as possible" for current PS3 game makers was a priority.

"We had to make development on the NGP as natural as possible - an extension of the PS3, if you will," he said, adding that games like Lost Planet 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 are very runnable on the system with very little porting work needed.

"Porting is simple and quick," he said. "But it doesn't mean that's all you can expect. My view of NGP isn't just as a platform for porting PS3 titles."

When it announced the NGP, Sony said it would be as powerful as a PS3 or Xbox 360, and it looks like it's making good on that promise. The interesting question is how many PS3 titles we'll actually see brought over to the new portable, or if future multi-platform PS3/360 games will add the NGP into their lineup.
