Sony teams with Guinness World Records for LittleBigPlanet 2 record setting event

Guinness World Records and Sony have partnered for a record-setting promotion that will see LittleBigPlanet 2 players attempt to break a set of gaming-related achievements, including the longest marathon playing of LittleBigPlanet 2. Clearly, the odds are against them.

The event is taking place at the Sony Style Store in New York city from January 17th to 19th in celebration of the game's launch on January 18th. During these three days, walk-in players are invited to join a previously selected batch of LittleBigPlanet 2 fans in an attempt to set five records, including:

  • Longest marathon playing LittleBigPlanet 2
  • Longest marathon playing a platform video game
  • Most video game genres played in one video game in 24 hours
  • Most user-generated video game levels played in 24 hours
  • Most user-generated video game levels played in a marathon

Guinness will also be honoring LittleBigPlanet 2 with the awards for 'most gaming genres in one video game' and 'most player-created levels in one video game.' And yes, considering it's the player-created levels that are used to introduce new genres, that's pretty much two awards for the same thing.

Full details on what to expect and how to join arelisted here. Sony will also be streaming the event live on theUS PlayStation Blog.
