Speed Racer and Sex & The City
A trippy promo for the Wachowskis’ latest pic and the first footage of Carrie ‘n’ co…
So here’s what we’ve all been waiting for: Joel Schumacher’s remake of Tron. What? Oh, sorry… apparently this is the first trailer for Matrix creators The Wachowski brothers’ film version of Speed Racer.
And… to be honest, it looks like Robert Rodriguez’ Shark Boy And Lava Girl, but with a bigger budget and even more retro camp. To give the brothers credit, it really does look like a cartoon come to life, but then it also look distinctly odd, and not, as Emile Hirsch seemed certain, entirely shot on green screens.
Hirsch, of course, plays our hero, Speed – a boy with motor oil running through his veins and a driving (har har) need to go really, really fast in a Ricky Bobby style. But with a nasty corporate type out to corrupt his passion for the race, he’ll need the help of the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox) if he’s going to make it to the finish line. The neon pink finish line, apparently.
We’re going to go now and have flashbacks to our days playing Sonic The Hedgehog on the Megadrive and you can enjoy the trailer here and some pics from the movie courtesy of USA Today here . Remember to please enjoy such brain-itching psychedelia responsibly.
Meanwhile, for something entirely less OTT (well, it depends on your point of view, we suppose) the first teaser for Sex & The City is out on the magical Interwebs. It’s not much – just some typical Sarah Jessica Parker narration over scenes from the show, sorry, film, but if you liked the series, head on over to see the trailer here .
