The cast updates for Spider-Man: Homecoming just keep on coming. Last week Donald Glover joined the highly anticipated 2017 film, and others who have signed on the dotted line include Michael Mando, comedian Hannibal Buress, and Beasts of No Nation star Abraham Attah.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest actor to sign on for Homecoming is Bokeem Woodbine. While we don't know much about who he's playing - a recurring theme with these last-minute castings - scuttlebutt points to Woodbine being a Spidey villain alongside Michael Keaton and Logan Marshall-Green.
The prospect of a third villain already has certain fans worried - indeed, the much-maligned Spider-Man 3 is often cited as a chief example of why that doesn't work. There's a couple reasons to be optimistic though; For one thing, Spider-Man has now joined the well-oiled machine that is the MCU. For another, it's easy to forget that Batman Begins also had three villains, but the bad guys are as well-serviced as the hero in Christopher Nolan's film.
In other words, having three villains is not necessarily a bad idea - it all comes down to execution, and I'm confident Jon Watts, Kevin Feige and co won't repeat mistakes made in prior films.
Directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr, Donald Glover, and Zendaya, Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into cinemas on July 7, 2017.
