Star Trek: Legacy - hands-on
Space war - the final frontier
As the skirmish raged on, we noticed each ship flaking away as the onslaught of weaponry lit up the space station. Warp nacelles leak gases, hulls crack open and, finally, the entire craft blasts apart into pieces when it just can't take any more punishment. Eventually, the Borg showed up, and we all had to pool our considerable space-resources together to tackle the immense battle cube.
You'll also be able to reenact pieces of the popular movies. We got to check out the nebula space battle from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, in which your outmanned and outgunned ship can escape into the shield-sucking nebula and even the odds. We didn't see evidence of such environmental effects elsewhere, but if there aren't any, it seems like an awful waste of space.
Legacy also offers several multiplayer modes featuring four races and full stat-tracking. You'll be able to mix things up by commanding your whole fleet or just a solo mission against a bunch of your friends when it comes out this fall.
