Star Wars 8's official title is Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Star Wars 8 finally has a name and it sets a pretty grim tone for the follow-up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The full title was revealed via the Star Wars Twitter account: Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
It's official. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is the next chapter of the Skywalker saga. This December. #TheLastJedi https://t.co/ySkVwQcMTP pic.twitter.com/eHrPgbsRJqJanuary 23, 2017
Kylo Ren devastated Luke's nascent Jedi order when he turned to the dark side, which left Luke as the last known member of the ancient order. But is the title referring to Luke or to his presumed student, Rey? Or maybe it's plural...
Possible spoiler alert: Mark Hamill did let slip that he'll be "out of work" after Episode 8, which implies the old Jedi Knight may not live to see the credits roll on The Last Jedi. Either way, it wouldn't be the first time Luke was called that.
Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Laura Dern, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and Benicio del Toro, Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in cinemas on December 15, 2017.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
